Studio Tour

studioMy studio is in a converted garage at my home in Mountain View, California. My daily commute is about 20 feet from my back door.

I began working in polymer clay in 1995, using the kitchen table as my studio. There were times when projects got so involved that our table was unusable for meals. I would spread a tablecloth on the carpet and have dinner picnic style. That got old fast, and before long we decided to kick the car out of the garage and create a space for a real studio.

This is where I spend most of my time making canes and playing around with color.

As you can see, I have managed to use every square inch of space. Occasionally I will clear off the work surfaces, but I find that I am more creative when I have everything laid out like a giant palette.

The flat file drawers contain hundreds of canes I have made over the years.

This is the area where I keep my beading supplies. I love all things colorful and sparkly! When I was a little girl, I lusted over the rhinestone rings at the toy store and dreamed of running my fingers through the glittering jewels in pirates' treasure chests that I saw in books.

Recently I have taken up glass lampworking as a hobby. We packed up the sewing table and in its place we squeezed a torch, kiln, and oxygen concentrator. As you can see, the common denominator throughout my studio is COLOR!

These are my constant companions while I work—Heidi the dog and her friend Gump.
