What is polymer clay?
Polymer clay is a man-made modeling material made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It has a plasticizer added to the PVC particles to make it maleable. It doesn't dry out in the air, and has a shelf life of many years (I have some clay that is almost 10 years old). It fuses into a solid plastic when baked in the oven at about 275 degrees F. The cured clay is waterproof, strong, and the colors do not fade. It's amazing stuff!
How can I learn more about polymer clay?
Visit the website for the International Polymer Clay Guild. The site has tons of listings of local guilds, classes and polymer clay events all over the U.S. and the world.
When I started working in polymer clay there were only 2 books on the subject. Now there are dozens and dozens of books on polymer clay. Do an internet search, look at the library or bookstores.
There are instructional DVDs and even tutorials on YouTube!
Can you make a custom cane?
I have made some canes on request. It depends on the image. It can take me anywhere from 3 to 10 hours to build a cane, and I end up with several feet of finished cane, so the design would have to have mass appeal. It has to have good graphic qualities, along with other factors. I can't do portraits, words, or images that are too complex.
Can I return or exchange an item I purchased or was given to me?
